OpSec

OpSec is shorthand for Operational Security.

It is a set of behavioural principles that are designed to keep you and your data safe.

What to do?

This is a very brief list.

0. Security is a process, not a product. Nothing is ever 100% safe.

  1. Keep your software up to date.
  2. Use strong and different passwords.
  3. Always have a pair of eyes on your hardware (it does not have to be your pair!).
  4. Lock your screen when you leave your computer/phone.
  5. Make sure to use encrypted connections (watch out for the “https:” in the address bar.
  6. Encrypt your hard disk.
  7. Don't open links or attachments from emails.

are three things you might want to have, and which are achieved through e.g. encrypting messages, signing messages, and using services without a single point of failure.
